Welcome
Yvonne Koves is a singer/songwriter currently based out of Kitchener, Ontario. The clarity of thought in her songwriting and the passion evident in her musical performances are the most outstanding qualities of her music. She has a large repertoire of originals and covers stretching across many genres. Having lived in the Caribbean most of her life, she is influenced by the rhythms of the islands and artists such as Harry Belafonte and Bob Marley. A Canadian citizen born in Winnipeg she has also been deeply influenced by folk artists such as Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.
Her experience with weddings and corporate events from the beaches and 5-star resort hotels in Barbados has given her the confidence to book herself into similar venues in southern Ontario. Some of her other career highlights include:
- a wonderful year with local Kitchener/Waterloo Jazz ensemble, "Soul Sauce"
- 7 years as half of the duo "Silk & Steel" on the Barbados hotel & restaurant circuit, first with partner Chris Alleyne and then with David Niccolls, two amazing guitarists and outstanding performers.
- 4 years as singer and dancer in live theatre cabaret show at the Ocean View Hotel in Barbados.
- 3 years as a classical singer at the Holder's Hill Music Festival in Barbados.
- 3 years as a celtic singer at the annual Barbados Celtic Festival.
- Her debut album "Love Is" was recorded in 2001 at CSR studios in Barbados. The album is played on 3 FM radio stations in Barbados.
Overall Yvonne would like to share with others the beauty of music through her songs. It brings her great joy to create music and lift the hearts of others through her performances.
